Important Message to EHS Supporters

Tuesday, Dec 17

Dear Supporters of the Erie Humane Society,

This is a difficult message to deliver, but I’m writing to inform you that the EHS Board of Directors became aware of potential wrongdoing by the former executive director and turned the matter over to the Millcreek Police. We are aware that criminal charges are being filed against former executive director Nicole Leone.

This was not a decision we took lightly. However, it is our responsibility as the board of directors to ensure the organization follows all legal and ethical standards, including the appropriate and responsible use of its resources, funds and donations.

Please understand that this is a sensitive legal matter, and we’re unable to share any additional information related to this situation at this time. However we will continue to be as transparent as possible, when and how we can.

The board of directors has formed a search committee to find a permanent replacement for the executive director role. We anticipate having the position posted soon and hope to have it filled during the first quarter of 2025.

In the interim, Emily McCullor and Rob Lewis continue to serve as co-executive directors. They have been doing an incredible job of keeping our operations running smoothly and leading the amazing team of staff and volunteers at EHS during this time of transition. We’re grateful to all of them for their commitment and hard work.

The Erie Humane Society has served a critical need in the community for 132 years. A countless number of homeless, neglected and abused pets have been saved, and families have adopted loving companions because of its tireless work. As we navigate this unexpected and unfortunate challenge, we remain committed to our no-kill mission to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome pets in need and look forward to bringing new leadership, ideas and energy to the organization.

On behalf of the board of directors and the staff of the Erie Humane Society, thank you for your loyalty and support. It is always valued and essential, but especially during challenging times like this one. Whether you volunteer, foster, donate, or attend our events, we appreciate you and couldn’t do this vital work without you.

Sincerely,

Genna Druzak
EHS Board President
