JOB TITLE: Clinic Receptionist
SUPERVISOR: Clinic Operations Manager, Executive Director
EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Part-time with potential for full-time status after six months.
WEEKLY HOURS: Approximately 16 hours.
COMPENSATION: Competitive based on experience.
The Erie Humane Society has an immediate opening for a Receptionist at our Pet Wellness Clinic. The Clinic Receptionist is responsible for scheduling appointments, checking in all appointments, ensuring all forms and waivers are accurately completed signed, and cashing appointments out. This position is also responsible for answering incoming calls, checking voicemail, and returning all calls in a timely fashion. This position will assist the Operations Manager in any preparation needed for the daily schedule. The Clinic Receptionist should have proficiency in computer skills, customer service, communication skills, and social engagement.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES
- Scheduling vaccine appointments, surgeries, and appointments for pet loss services
- Answering the phone and returning calls in a timely manner
- Maintaining the clinic (cleaning, organizing, etc.)
- Entering vaccinations and services into the computer system accurately and efficiently
- Professionally and compassionately handling every customer’s needs
- Communicating with other organizations we partner with for surgical services
- Working effectively as part of a team as well as independently
MINOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Filing paperwork/records on a consistent basis
- Maintaining accurate records
- Performing any other duties reasonably requested by supervisor.
EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Experience in veterinary reception preferred.
- Knowledge of vaccinations and basic veterinary terminology

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Job Title: Part–time Adoption Counselor
Location: Erie, Pennsylvania-Millcreek Township
Job Relationship: Reports to Adoption Manger and Executive Director
Compensation: Competitive, based on experience. *Must be available to work Thursday evenings and Saturdays *
RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Responsible for the entire adoption process, including but not limited to; matchmaking, application review, meet and greets, and adoption contracts and health records.
•Provides excellent customer service and education with regards to care of animals and EHS adoption process
•Responsible for providing counseling, support and education to all adopters including, but not limited to; providing general care information, any known history, information on acclimating adopted animal to a new home and new people, training advice, potential health and behavior issues, and responsible pet ownership
•Responsible for reviewing adoption applications, responding to emails and phone calls communicating with the potential adopters
•Responsible for assisting with adoption follow up calls and addressing adopters’ concerns
•Responsible for clear and accurate data entry and cage signage for proper communication about all shelter animals
•Works with shelter staff and volunteers to promote and increase adoptions
•Responsible for effective communication of shelter policies, practices, and procedures to employees, volunteers, and the public
•Responsible for maintaining a clean and sanitary work environment, cleaning lobby and restrooms daily
•Assist with all operations necessary to increase overall adoptions
•Performs related work as required
QUALIFICATIONS:
•Graduation from an accredited high school
•Must have 4+ years of customer service experience
•Must demonstrate excellent communication and customer service skills including working with potentially difficult customers
•Must be able to exhibit knowledge and understanding of animal behavior, including those with health and behavioral challenges, and of proper care for animals
•Must be experienced and comfortable with handling animals
•Must demonstrate strong computer skills and be effective with data entry
•Must be able to modify schedule to meet the Erie Humane Society’s operational needs.

Job Title: Pet Care Attendant
Job Relationship: Reports to Pet Care Managers, Pet Care Assistant Managers and Executive Director
The Erie Humane Society is in search of a committed individual that will work diligently in maintaining the Erie Humane Society’s high standard of animal care and mission to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome the orphaned and injured pets of our community.
Part-time, with competitive compensation based on experience.
Position Summary:
Responsible for daily cleaning and sanitation of shelter facility, including animal enclosures and public areas, feeding, care, vaccinations, medical observation, and daily enrichment of shelter animals.
Essential Job Functions:
- Provides optimal standard of care to all animals sheltered at the EHS
- Performs daily cleaning and sanitizing of kennels, cages, and public areas; follows cleaning and disease control protocols to ensure a safe, healthy environment
- Feeds and provides daily enrichment to shelter animals
- Does animal laundry and dishes throughout the day
- Follows all safety guidelines to ensure a safe work environment for staff and living environment for animals. Takes immediate action to address any safety concern or noncompliance of safety rules that could put an employee, volunteer, client animal, or the organization at risk
- Stocks areas and spot-cleans kennels and public areas throughout the day
- Promptly moves animals (adoption, isolation, quarantine, etc.) as instructed
- Keeps supervisor informed of animal behavior, health, or other concerns
- Maintains cleaning equipment, tools and appliances.
- Performs other duties and special projects as assigned
Provides professional client, staff, and volunteer care - with the highest standards of customer care and service:
- Works closely with adoptions staff to perform pet introductions and educate clients on responsible animal guardianship and animal care
- Actively and professionally promotes and markets EHS animals and matches them to appropriate families
- Represents the EHS in a professional and courteous manner at all times. Provides quality service to customers, volunteers, and staff recognizing their individual contributions to the success of our organization
- Promotes integration and utilization of volunteers
- Actively promotes the EHS programs and events to clients and volunteers
- Refers clients to appropriate staff for service
- Assists with accepting in-kind donations
- Promotes communication and cooperation between EHS departments
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Able to read and understand instructions
- Able to work with animals, disinfectants, and cleaning supplies
- Able to perform physical work: scrubbing, mopping, bending, lifting, walking and standing for up to 10 hours a day, lifting up to 50 pounds with assistance
- Must have valid PA Driver’s License & reliable transportation, and be able to travel for required training.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Animal husbandry experience preferred
- Excellent communication skills and proven customer service ability in working with the public
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a variety of people
- Knowledge of animal breeds, behavior, and handling
- Demonstrated ability to handle high-stress and emotionally charged situations
- Detail oriented and able to prioritize and perform duties efficiently and effectively and with an adequate degree of independence
Working Conditions:
- Work is performed constantly in an animal shelter that operates seven days per week with exposure to animals, including some with questionable health and temperament concerns, high noise levels, diseases, and cleaning agents.
- The person in this position needs to be able to stand for long periods of time
- Occasionally positions self to handle animals of all sizes in a variety of areas and positions (low cages, high cages, on tables, on the floor, in vehicles, etc.).
- Constantly communicate with visitors, staff members and volunteers who have inquiries about all aspects of the Erie Humane Society’s operations and must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
- Must be able to detect and recognize animal behavior that is potentially dangerous. Occasionally move animals weighing up to 100 pounds (i.e. through the shelter on leash or using other safe restraint and animal handling equipment, into and out of cages in the shelter, into and out of shelter vehicles, onto and off of exam tables).
- Must be able to modify schedule to meet the Erie Humane Society’s operational needs.
