Spay/Neuter

The importance of spaying and neutering

The problem of unwanted and neglected animals is a huge one. You can be part of the solution by getting your animals fixed.

A focal point of our mission is to promote responsible pet ownership and reduce the number of unwanted and homeless animals, therefore, it is our practice to spay and neuter all dogs and cats before they are available for adoption. This includes puppies and kittens of appropriate age, weight, and development.

We perform these surgeries in an operating room featuring all of the necessary equipment and sterilized, surgical instruments. Animals are typically available for adoption one to four days after surgery, but are not available for viewing during the surgery or recovery process. Some animals may require longer recovery times. Each pet’s health and well-being are our priority and we will make every effort to place animals up for adoption as soon as they are ready.

What's in it for you?

  1. Spaying and Neutering not only helps control unwanted animals from overpopulating animal shelters, it can also be of benefit to you, your home, and your family.
  2. Fixed dogs and cats are much less likely to run away to find a mate. This can cause them to be hit by a car, stolen, injured or permanently stray.
  3. Spayed and neutered dogs and cats are less likely to be aggressive towards humans and other animals.
  4. Neutered male dogs and cats are less likely to mark their territory (and your furniture) with urine.
  5. Fixing a pet makes them more affectionate and greatly reduces sexual energy, which can cause frustration and violent behavior.
  6. Un-spayed female dogs will menstruate for 10 days straight, twice a year which can mean blood on your carpet, furniture, clothing, etc.
  7. Unsterilized dogs or cats may experience a number of health problems that can be very difficult or expensive to treat.

What’s in it for your pet?

  1. Spaying and neutering can improve your animal's quality of life and increase their lifespan.
  2. Spaying females eliminates their heat cycle, the chance of uterine infection, ovarian or uterine cancers. It also greatly reduces the risk of breast cancer, which 1 in 4 un-spayed female dogs and cats will develop.
  3. Prostate enlargement occurs in at least 60% of all un-neutered male animals. This often leads to prostate tumors and infections.
  4. Neutering males eliminates the possibility of testicular cancer and greatly reduces the risk of tumors of the penis and anal areas.

The list of benefits goes on and on.

Spaying and neutering animals is much cheaper than raising new ones and is appropriate for pure and mixed breeds. For further information on pet spaying or neutering, call us at 814-835-8331 or check out these resources:
